June 2011

Richard Craig acted for Seconique Plc, a major wholesale furniture importer and distributor, in securing and executing an extensive search and seizure order and freezing injunction against another wholesale trader for the removal of stock from premises in Northern Ireland.  This involved leading a team of eight lawyers in the search of four premises.

 

Mills Selig staff participated in the Business in the Community ‘Give and Gain Day’. Anne Skeggs and Glenn Watterson spent the day at Lisnasharragh Primary School.

 

 

The German-Irish Lawyers and Business Association held its annual conference in Belfast this year. Included in the speakers at this prestigious cross-border event was Kathryn Walls who outlined to those attending from both Germany and Ireland the recent developments in company law here, including the impact of the Companies Act 2006 and the new Bribery Act 2010.

Mills Selig awarded ‘Deal of the Year’ at Northern Ireland’s  inaugural “Insider DealMaker Awards” in recognition of their role as legal advisors to the acquisition of O’Kane Poultry Limited to Moy Park Limited. Congratulations to Chris Guy, Partner in the corporate team who headed up the transaction.

 

John Kearns and Richard Craig acted for the directors of a number of public houses and restaurants in an application for the appointment of an administrator.

Charity Spring Clean: The recent downturn has resulted in less being donated to charity shops than ever before. Mills Selig held a week long ‘Spring Clean’ drive for Save the Children inviting staff to bring in any unwanted clothes, books and bric-a brac they may have at home which the firm arranged to be delivered to the charity.

 

Marathon Update: Congratulations to our ten runners who braved the heat of Belfast on May Day, raising over £700 for the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

Mills Selig has entered two teams in this year’s Belfast Marathon to raise some much needed funds for the  Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice. The Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice cares for children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and supports their families and those close to them. John Kearns and Maeve Fisher advised an objector in successfully preventing the grant of a liquor licence to Asda at Crumlin Road.

Three members of the Mills Selig team carried out Saintly Duties by participating in the Business in the Community ‘Be a Saint’ Day on 16th March. Patrick O’Reilly, Katrina Lyons and Rachel McAllister spent the day volunteering at Fleming Fulton School in Belfast, preparing plots for the pupils to use to plant vegetables and working on the school pond.
